About the district

Surakhani lies in the east of Baku, in the middle of Absheron, and has more than 210,000 residents. Its best-known monument is the Ateshgah fire temple on the northern edge of Surakhani settlement, a castle-like temple complex built over a natural gas seep and now run as a museum. Besides Surakhani, the district includes Hovsan, Garachukhur, Yeni Gunashli, Amirjan, Zigh and Bulbula; Garachukhur and Yeni Gunashli are known for large high-rise estates. The centre is reached mostly by bus or car, and some areas connect by bus to nearby metro stations such as Ahmadli, Hazi Aslanov and Koroglu. Petrochemical facilities typical of Absheron surround the area, which affects views and air quality in places. Surakhani suits families looking for more affordable options and buyers wanting a house with a large yard.
